Sería junio (¿o julio?) de 2001, apenas una semana antes me confirmaron el financiamiento familiar para tomar un par de materias de la carrera profesional en Praga, la hermosa capital de la República Checa, siendo verano (temporada alta) y de último momento, tuve problemas para conseguir vuelos, la idea era volar a Madrid y de ahí moverme por vía terrestre (mientras nos abocábamos al incomprendido oficio de turistear) hasta Praga, después de buscarle consigo a un precio razonable un vuelo a Madrid por Delta.
It was june (maybe july) 2001, just a week before my family confirmed the financial support to take a couple o courses of my bachelor’s degree at Prague, the awesome capital of the Czech Republic, being summer (peak season) and too close the date I needed to fly, I had some problems to find the flights, my plan was to fly to Madrid and from there made the road trip to Prague, after the search finally found a not so expensive route by Delta.
La ruta indicada era “Monterrey – Atlanta – Nueva York – Madrid”, si, suena rara pero era lo que había, el día que iba a salir, tenía que estar muy temprano en el Aeropuerto (5am) documento mi equipaje, y todo transcurre normal, llegar al avión me doy cuenta que era realmente pequeño, la primera señal era que mi maleta de mano no cabía en los compartimentos entonces me obligaron a documentarla también, la segunda señal era que tampoco cabía en el avión, al sentarme me veía obligado a tomar la forma curva del contorno del mismo (jeje), me dije, al cabo es un tramo corto.
The route was “Monterrey Mx – Atlanta – New York – Madrid“ yes,a bit weird but just what I found, the flight day, I had to be really early at the airport, around 5am, check in my luggage, everything is ok but when I finally get in the plane I realized how small it was, the first sign was that my carry-on luggage did’t fit in and I had to check it in, the second sign was that I didn’t fit in the plane neither hehe, but I tought at least is a short flight.
Finalmente en Atlanta la primera parada fue en migración, muestro mis papeles, respondo algunas preguntas sobre el viaje, después me piden el boleto de avión del resto de la ruta, entonces caigo en cuenta que lo deje en la maleta de mano que me obligaron a documentar, entonces cambia la actitud del oficial, se pone agresivo y grosero, cuando menos, me pregunta como iba a pagar el viaje (mis padres), quien te mantiene (mis padres), como sabían ellos que no me quería quedar a trabajar (no me interesa, soy estudiante), cuanto dinero llevas, le dije una cantidad cualquiera a lo que alegó que no era suficiente para mi plan de viaje, yo algo enojado con la actitud tomada me pongo prepotente también y saco de la cartera la tarjeta de crédito y se la enseñé diciéndole que si las conocía, el oficial se termina de enojar y me manda a un cuarto lleno de ilegales, ahí me atiende otro oficial y más tranquilo me pide que vaya por el boleto en mi maleta, voy por él y me sella el pasaporte.
Finally in Atlanta the first stop was the migration check up, I gave the offiecer my Passport and visa, answered some questions about the travel, after that asked me for flight ticket, damned! I left it in the carry-on luggage, so the officer changed the attitude and bécame agresive, asked how I was gonna pay for the trip (my parents), who supports me (my parents), how did they know I was not gonna look for a job (I don’t care your town I’m a student) how much Money do you carry on your wallet, I gave hin a number, a he said that was not enough for the trip, so I pissed off in a rude way took from the wallet my credit card and asked him if he knew them and its use, so he sent me to the illegal people room…. There, other officer checked my papers, sent me for the tickets and closed this show.
Después de la experiencia en migración voy a las ventanillas de Delta para saber donde iba a tomar el próximo vuelo, me dan indicaciones para lo cual tenía que tomar un tren con rumbo a otra terminal, algo desorientado paro aun así tomé las decisiones correctas, conforme se iba acercando la hora para tomar el vuelo veo por la ventana que el clima se está deteriorando, llegando la hora en la pantalla de programación de vuelos donde decía “on time” me lo cambian a “delay” yo nervioso empiezo a hacer cálculos con los tiempos de conexión.
After the “migration office experience” I go to Delta info office to know where to go, said me to take an internal train to other gate, not really knowing what I was doing but no mistakes, the closer the departure time was arriving the climate goes wild, at the departure time the “on time” sign of the flight changed to “Delay” so then me, nervous, started calculate the connections time.
Con mi inglés deficiente, tan deficiente como el actual me acerco a la encargada , ella, una afro-americana grandota (alrededor de 1.90mts.) me dice con un acento muy fuerte, que me hacía difícil entenderle, que no había problema y que me calmara, yo seguía nervioso haciendo cuentas, hora y media después por fin partimos, yo estaba en el entendido que era un vuelo directo a NY pero hace una parada en Washington para recoger más gente, yo al borde de un ataque, empiezo a comentar a la azafata y después a gente de cabina para ver la posibilidad de retrasar el vuelo de NY a Madrid…..no lo logré.
With my poor english, as poor as nowadays, I tried to talk with the airline girl, a really tall (about 1.90mts.) african-american with a strong acent that made me difficult to understand all what she says, only understood to be calm, I was still nervous, an hour and a half later we depart, I tought that was a direct flight but we made a stop at Washington D.C. picking up more people, I was in the middle of a nervous atack and talking with the flight attendant and people from cabin tried to delay the other flight NYC-Madrid… coudn’t do it.
Llegué al JFK de Nueva York exactamente a la hora que iba partiendo mi vuelo, me acerco inmediatamente a ventanilla para ver opciones, me dice que tengo 5 minutos para subir a un vuelo con rumbo a Ámsterdam o me quedaría varado un par de días en NY, encargándole mi equipaje que estaba documentado hasta Madrid salgo corriendo a la terminal correcta cuando empezaban a cerrar el acceso, el vuelo como todos los transoceánicos nos mantienen a base de alimento cada 3 horas y películas aburridas, dormí a pata tendida esa noche.
Arived the JFK airport of NYC exactly at the time the other flight was departing, I went again with the Delta people to check te options, told I just had 5 minutes to take other plane to Amsterdam or to be stuck for a couple of days, asking them to check my luggage were sent to this plane I ran by the airport to the gate just when they were starting to closet he doors, the flight? Just like all of them, eating every couple of hours and boring movies in the front, I just felt asleep.
Nueve horas después estábamos aterrizando en Amsterdam, ese aeropuerto parecía más un centro comercial que un aeropuerto, no me pusieron demasiados problemas en migración, de nuevo me acerco con la gente de Delta para ver cómo le hacíamos, me piden los datos de mi equipaje para reencausarlo y me mandan a la ventanilla de KLM con quienes iba a volar 20 minutos después rumbo a mi destino.
Nine hours later arrived Amsterdam, what a place, the airport looked more like a mall than an airport, no problems with migration point, again in the Delta spot to check what to do, asked me the info about my luggage to reconnecta and sent me to KLM to take a flight 20 minutes later to Madrid.
Dos horas más tarde estaba llegando a Madrid….no así mi equipaje.

Caminado un medio kilómetro de ahí está el Museo de Antropología e Historia el cual es un museo impresionante donde hace memoria de todos los pueblos que conforman México, es este realmente un país complejo y bello.
Al otro día fue la visita de rigor al Centro Histórico que está marcada por la plancha del Zócalo la principal plaza de este país, a una orilla está la Catedral y en otra el Palacio Nacional, se puede entrar a Palacio y ver las pinturas que están adentro, las escalinatas tienen un mural maravilloso pintado por Diego Rivera.
Bueno, pero a todo esto como llegó a Ise Shima, bueno la forma de llegar (la que yo use) fue tomar el tren rápido de Tokio a Nagoya, en la estación de Nagoya cambié al Mie Rapid un tren regional que toma como 1:40hrs en el trayecto hasta Ise, el pase de trenes JR cubre completo el tren rápido (el kodama y el hikari, el nozomi no) y cubre parcialmente el Mie Rapid
