Japan, just like other countries, has some topics that don't like to talk about, the taboos that society and media use to avoid talking about them, one of this awkward topics is the death penalty.

And what catch our attention is not the fact that is happening there, other countries do it for example our northern neighbors (US) that not just do it but make of it a media event, Mexico quits the use of death penalty long time ago (at leat legally) probably since the end of our revolution that took the first 30 years of the XX century, what takes our attention is the way they hide it, nobody knows the execution location, the prisoner doesn't know the execution day, etc, they handle the info in a weirdo way, at least for our western standar.

Why to talk about this topic? the opportunity of course, I was just readind an AP article from the Reforma, a mexican newspaper, saying that for the first time, at least since WWII the japanese government opened the doors, to local press, to the execution chambers, as an initiative of the Minister of Justice Keiko Chiba.

The press took a 30m tour by the halls and the execution chamber (gallows)and the system to activate it. Media made the lecture tha this oppeness of the Minister Chiba is part of her attempts to open discussion about death penalty and try to abolish. Actually there are 107 prisoner waiting their date with death.

Un año más - One more year

Hoy es mi cumpleaños...
Today is my b-day

And I'm happy to be here sharing this wonderful world with you.

I'm happy to have the possibility of having a deep breath every morning, and after meditate, to go fighting for the life to have a, just a bit, better living place.

I'm happy to have a job, a job that teach me, that let me be a better guy everyday, and let me colaborate within my modest efforts, in the development of my country.

I'm happy to have the possibility of learning something new everyday, because I can read every book, newspaper, magazine or investigation I want, I love the good discussions, open, inteligent, without passion in the times of hate.

I'm happy to have a great family that love me and gave the freedom and formation space to become the man I am.

I'm happy because I can, any day, to remember all the great things I have, just in the hard times for my country that is facing some particular problems that tests the viability as a state.

Y de nuevo conmemoramos la miseria humana – And that day reminds us the human misery

Today, august 6, just like every year since 1945, is remembered the flight of the “Enola Gay”, US Army War Plane, over the city of Hiroshima during the WWII, and the drop of the “Little boy” first nuclear bomb with a serious destruction intention. It was a message they said, it was a disgrace I thought.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki (the other bombed city) tried and try to rescue something positive from this cruelty scene, the living understanding about what man can do to prevail, and becoming a symbol of hope cause life can go back from ashes.

Some years ago, during a travel to Japan, I had the oportunity to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it’s a life’s experience, the shock is brutal, and I think that’s the way the people from this communities want you t olive it, if there’s no learning will be useless the lost of all that lives.

Well, I just can send a hug for the japanese brothers in the memory of their deads.

Now I’m going to talk to you another story, shorter and more recent, just like I told you in other post, taking something good from unemployment, the plenty of time I had, I made short trip to Mexico city and the southern state of Chiapas, when I ended the Mexico city trip, in the International Airport I was waiting to take my plane to Chiapas.

I joined the line in front of the airline spot to get the boarding pass, the an employee ask for the people who is not gonna check in any luggage, then me and the girl that was just in front of me moved to the front of the line, so then a really angry guy started screaming things about corruption, and some insults dedicated to me.

I did’t answer, just hear and when I was in front of the airline guy to get the boarding pass the guy stand besides me, with a really disturbing alcoholic smell, and started tos ay he was before me and moved me aside, I didn’t want a useless fight so I let him do the proces, then I got my pass (a 30 sec job).

Then, the other girl that had been moved in the front line with me asked me if I was ok, I said everything’s great, so she said let’s go for a coffee, we got in a cafetería and started talking, she is a mexico city’s girl in a gradúate program in Canada on his way to Guadalajara (another beautiful mexican city I’m gonna talk you later) attending a wedding, she was just arriving Mexico and wanted to eat “pan de muerto” (death bread), a sweet bread tha is sold in the days before the death’ day (nov2) we were in the middle of the month anyway she asked the waitress for it, and bingo! There was a piece, still talking an hour so we took our flights.

Sometimes from disgusting situations something good comes, I found a new friend.

It was june (maybe july) 2001, just a week before my family confirmed the financial support to take a couple o courses of my bachelor’s degree at Prague, the awesome capital of the Czech Republic, being summer (peak season) and too close the date I needed to fly, I had some problems to find the flights, my plan was to fly to Madrid and from there made the road trip to Prague, after the search finally found a not so expensive route by Delta.

The route was “Monterrey Mx – Atlanta – New York – Madrid“ yes,a bit weird but just what I found, the flight day, I had to be really early at the airport, around 5am, check in my luggage, everything is ok but when I finally get in the plane I realized how small it was, the first sign was that my carry-on luggage did’t fit in and I had to check it in, the second sign was that I didn’t fit in the plane neither hehe, but I tought at least is a short flight.

Finally in Atlanta the first stop was the migration check up, I gave the offiecer my Passport and visa, answered some questions about the travel, after that asked me for flight ticket, damned! I left it in the carry-on luggage, so the officer changed the attitude and bécame agresive, asked how I was gonna pay for the trip (my parents), who supports me (my parents), how did they know I was not gonna look for a job (I don’t care your town I’m a student) how much Money do you carry on your wallet, I gave hin a number, a he said that was not enough for the trip, so I pissed off in a rude way took from the wallet my credit card and asked him if he knew them and its use, so he sent me to the illegal people room…. There, other officer checked my papers, sent me for the tickets and closed this show.

After the “migration office experience” I go to Delta info office to know where to go, said me to take an internal train to other gate, not really knowing what I was doing but no mistakes, the closer the departure time was arriving the climate goes wild, at the departure time the “on time” sign of the flight changed to “Delay” so then me, nervous, started calculate the connections time.

With my poor english, as poor as nowadays, I tried to talk with the airline girl, a really tall (about 1.90mts.) african-american with a strong acent that made me difficult to understand all what she says, only understood to be calm, I was still nervous, an hour and a half later we depart, I tought that was a direct flight but we made a stop at Washington D.C. picking up more people, I was in the middle of a nervous atack and talking with the flight attendant and people from cabin tried to delay the other flight NYC-Madrid… coudn’t do it.

Arived the JFK airport of NYC exactly at the time the other flight was departing, I went again with the Delta people to check te options, told I just had 5 minutes to take other plane to Amsterdam or to be stuck for a couple of days, asking them to check my luggage were sent to this plane I ran by the airport to the gate just when they were starting to closet he doors, the flight? Just like all of them, eating every couple of hours and boring movies in the front, I just felt asleep.

Nine hours later arrived Amsterdam, what a place, the airport looked more like a mall than an airport, no problems with migration point, again in the Delta spot to check what to do, asked me the info about my luggage to reconnecta and sent me to KLM to take a flight 20 minutes later to Madrid.

After a 2 hours flight I arrived Madrid…. But not my luggage

Tour del desempleo 2a parte - Unemployment Tour (2 of 3)

Oh, It took me so long but finally I'm doing the chronicles from my recent trip, first stop Mexico City.

Mexico City was made over the ruins of the old Tenochtitlan, city of the mexicas (aztecs), that after became tha capital of the New Spain in the Colonial times, nowadays a urban center that holds more than 20 million people.

This city is the product of the centralist system that ruled in latin-america, there you can find every government offices, international organizations offices, cultural institutions, etc, Mexico city is so intense, to me the most intense city in the world, with a cultural offer so diverse and accesible.

My first day in the city was a museums day, in the middle of Mexico City the is a forrest "Chapultepec" inside the forrest you can find museums, a zoo, a lake even an amusement park, similar to Ueno (just a bit), in the forest you can see a hill where is located a castle, this castle used to be a Milital College, even a battle place during the US invasion, the castle used to be too an Imperial Palace, during the french invasion, presidents house, etc, now a small history museum.

Down the hill you can find the Modern Art Museum that has a los of works from Remedios Varo one of my favorite painters. crossing the street in the middle of a park there is the Rufino Tamayo Modern Art Museum.

Half a mile from there there is the Anthropology Museum an amazing place where you can find info of all the nations that constitute this country, Mexico is a complex and beutiful country.

Next day I visited the Historical Center of the city, there is the Zocalo the principal park of the contry besides it you can find cathedral and the National Palace, you can get in the palace and see the mural work of Diego Rivera in the stairs, amazing.

Walking by the streets near the Zocalo you can find the Beauty Arts Palace, the principal arts place in the country, next the Palace there is La Alameda one of the most traditional parks in the city, and start to walk by "Paseo de la Reforma" a beautiful street full of trees, full of artistic expresions.

Mexico city has many fun zones, "La Condesa" zone is a nice comercial neighborhood full of restaurants and bars, other nice place is Coyoacan a very traditional place in the city, you can walk early in the morning get into the market take your breakfast there, a quesadilla de huitlacoche (a taco made with a mushroom that borns in the corn), visit the bookstores or the coffee shops, etc. other two great places in Coyoacan es "La casa azul" (the blue house) house and museum where used to live Diego Rievera and Frida Kahlo, also visited the house of Lev Davidovich Bronstein best known as Leon trotsky one of the leaders of the october revolution in Russia but after a fight with Stalin was exhiles but from the planet, just found refugee in Mexico thaks to Diego Rivera and president Lázaro Cárdenas.

Near Mexico city there are one of the greatest indigenous ruins the city of Tenochtitlan, there you will find the pyramids of the sun and the moon.

Well, you never know everything about this great city.
